General Definitions
Current Legal Framework Date: February 21, 2026
Disclaimer: The definitions provided below are based on active Indian law, primarily The Code on Social Security, 2020. We will actively try to update this tab as labor laws and platform compliance regulations evolve in India.
Core Legal Definitions
1. Gig Worker
As explicitly defined under Section 2(35) of The Code on Social Security, 2020, a "gig worker" means a person who performs work or participates in a work arrangement and earns from such activities outside of a traditional employer-employee relationship.
2. Gig
Derived from the legal framework above, a "gig" refers to the specific work arrangement, task, or shift executed by a gig worker. It is characterized by its temporary, on-demand, or task-based nature, completely separate from formal payroll employment.
3. Gig Creator (The Client)
While the law uses the term "User" or "Buyer" of services, in the GigGuyz ecosystem, the "Gig Creator" is the independent enterprise client (e.g., Caterer, Event Planner, Film Producer). They are the business entity that generates the demand, posts the shift requirements, and directly compensates the Gig Worker for the completed task.
Related Legal Terms
- Aggregator: Under Section 2(2) of the Code, an aggregator is a digital intermediary or marketplace connecting buyers of a service with the providers of that service. GIGGUYZ SERVICES LLP operates legally as an Aggregator.
- Platform Worker: A worker whose work arrangement is accessed through an online algorithmic matching platform (like the GigGuyz app ecosystem).
- Unorganised Worker: A home-based worker, self-employed worker, or a wage worker in the unorganised sector, legally distinct from corporate payroll employees.
How GigGuyz Maintains Ecosystem Integrity
We do not just define these terms; we hardcode them into our business logic to protect both the Gig Creator and the Gig Worker:
- Identity Integrity via SDK: We utilize the DigiBoost SDK for strict Aadhaar verification. This ensures the person legally defined as the "Gig Worker" is physically the one attending the shift, preventing "Ghost Worker" fraud.
- Earning Protection: To respect the independent nature of the Gig Worker, our platform commission is charged to the Gig Creator on top of the gig rate. We maintain the integrity of the worker's payout by ensuring zero hidden deductions from their agreed-upon wage.
- Non-Repudiable Payment Confirmation: Our end-of-shift QR code scanner cryptographically acts as proof of transaction, maintaining transparency in the temporary work arrangement.
